Pain
I saw God today in my yoga practice as the practice alleviated pain. Pain is what brought me to the practice. The first time I was exposed to yoga I had deep emotional pain as I was experiencing a separation and divorce. The second time I was led to yoga I was experiencing deep physical pain in my body. I was using my body and working hard, but not caring for my body as I needed to. I had a neck injury and found one morning I could not turn my head, roll over or get out of bed. The pain was excruciating to me. I went to a physical therapist who helped me learn techniques and tools to completely take away the pain. While at the office I had a thought come to me to try yoga again.
As I have practiced consistently I have found that I am free from pain and discomfort in my body. When I have an injury in my body such as my back from hauling things I simply come back to yoga and within 3-4 days the pain is gone. My consistency is not even every day. And most days it is less than a 30 minute practice. Yoga is an incredible gift from God to me because it keeps my body free from pain. For me right now physical pain. I am working on emotional, spiritual and mental pain.
Now though as I have delved into yoga and explored more of the history and practice, yoga is so much more than postures. It is about connecting my mind, my breath and my body.
It is difficult to watch those around me who have physical pain and are turning to all sorts of strategies. But there is a most divine, simple practice that can take the pain away for those who will believe.
